Traditionally rodent traps have been baited with cheese. However in their natural habitat a mouse’s typical diet includes seeds and fruit. Inside homes they are attracted to sweet and calorie rich foods, as such our favourite bait is Crunchy peanut butter. If possible try and wedge a piece of peanut from the peanut butter into the bait holder. Other suggestions for baits include soft cheese, chocolate, sticky sweets such as marshmallows and meats such as bacon.
Another suggestion to attract female mice is to tie a short piece of string or wool to the bait holder. Females when nesting will look for such materials.
Rats have a similar diet to Mice, but we suggest also trying fruits or meat to bait your trap.
It is of upmost importance to secure your bait, whichever you chose before you arm the trap. If you were to arm the trap and then attempt to secure your bait, there is a good chance you may injure yourself.
Rats and Mice traditionally only walk along walls as they have very bad eye sight, when positioning your trap, position it perpendicular against a wall so the Rats and Mice come across the trap easily.
Usually if you see one mouse or rat you will have multiple hiding within your house. So we suggest setting up multiple traps against walls in protected areas, away from people (especially children), domestic animals and wildlife. Traps can be used both indoors and outdoors.
We recommend that once a mouse or rat is captured in our trap, you simply pick the whole trap up with the mouse or rat attached, put it in a plastic bag and throw it in the bin. This eliminates the chance of spreading germs or disease.
